Epic 80s Relay Doubles poster, 17 to 19 October 2025, teams of 4 rotating every 10 points

Welcome to Epic 80’s Relay Doubles, where retro vibes meet serious squash action. Below are all the details you need to show up, play hard, and have fun.

Entry details

  • Dates: 17 to 19 October 2025
  • Teams: 4 players
  • Venue: Evertsdal Squash Club, 57 Mountain View Drive, Evertsdal. Padel and pickleball run at Bandeja Padel and Pickleball at the same venue.

Note: Friday games start early, so plan around this. We’ll try to have locals play the early games, but be prepared to play on Friday, possibly early.

The theme this year is Epic 80s. Dress-up is compulsory for the Saturday afternoon and evening matches (times will be on the fixtures). Feel free to dress up for the whole event: there are prizes for best dressed.

Cost

There’s also a separate, optional padel and pickleball fun event over the same weekend. Entry is R100 per person, paid at the Bandeja club, not with this entry.

Format and match play

  • Warm-up and time: each match starts with a 5-minute warm-up, then 60 minutes of play. When the bell rings, finish the rally in progress and the match is over.
  • Team order: before the match, pick your order (players 1 to 4). That order sets how partners rotate.
  • Rotation: partners switch every 10 points: 1 & 2 → 2 & 3 → 3 & 4 → 4 & 1 → back to 1 & 2.
  • Match points: every 10-point mark (each switch) is a match point, and these count toward bonus scoring. If match points are tied at the end, the tie-break rules apply.

Team value, reserves and penalties

  • Section minimums: teams must meet the minimum league value for their section (A, B, C or D).
  • Reserves and injuries: if you bring in a reserve, the team’s total value must still be at or above the section minimum. If not, penalty points apply.
  • Three players: if someone is missing or injured, the 4th player is given the average value of the other three when working out the team total.

Sections and tie-breaks

  • Pools: teams are grouped into pools and play every other team in their pool.
  • Playoffs: after the pool matches, teams are seeded into finals or playoffs by their placing.
  • Tie-breaks: if two teams have the same number of match wins, ranking is decided by (1) head-to-head result, then (2) total points across all matches. If more than two teams are tied, the highest total points across all matches wins.

Scoring and match sheets

  • Mark every 10-point mark on the match sheet. These matter for bonus scoring.
  • If match points are tied when time runs out, both teams get a bonus. If one team leads at the match-point marks, that team gets extra bonus points.
  • Record penalties (value shortfall, missing players and so on) clearly on the match sheet.

Things to remember

  • Be ready: matches run on time, and warm-ups, swaps and changeovers all count.
  • Stick to the order you declared at the start. No swapping once the match begins.
  • Respect the bell: finish the rally in progress, then no new rallies.
  • Bring the energy and some neon or 80s flair. Let’s make it legendary.
